Have you been to the top of the mountain? The air is thin, and so is the population. That's just as true in the music biz as it is on Mount Everest, with a tiny little percentage of CDs becoming million sellers each year. (Fact: More women go platinum every day than CDs do in a year.)

But big CD sales isn't the only measure of success in music, it's just one of them, and the fact that I can't think of any others at the moment doesn't mean they don't exist. You know what they are. The trouble is, there are those who have made it to the top (no matter how you look at it) without you either (a.) knowing them or (b.) learning anything from their journey.
